At the northern end of The Lizard peninsula in West Cornwall, our holiday cottages in Helston are in a town famed for its annual medieval Furry Dance (Flora Dance to the locals), well positioned just 12 miles from Penzance and 9 miles from Falmouth and in a wonderful position for enjoying the stunning Lizard Peninsula.
Head out from your self-catering holiday cottage in Helston for the day to enjoy the second oldest town in Cornwall where tales of Saxons go back to the 6th century and a charter was granted to the town in 1201. History since then has seen the town prosper as a tin mine and relics of Helston’s dramatic past can be found all around town – as can they be found throughout the Lizard Peninsula.
From your cottage in Helston you may well want to visit the Helston Museum full of historic memories, follow the Helston Town Trail from the Guildhall to learn even more, explore the National Trust Penrose Estate on foot or bicycle, or take a ride on the Helston Railway – an ongoing steamy restoration project. The town also has all the conveniences you need on holiday including two grocery stores and a petrol station.
We’ve found a marvelous selection of cottages for you in Helston and our holiday lettings here make an ideal base for exploring the rich local culture and history, or heading out to other nearby attractions and beaches, including the famous Cornwall surf break at Porthleven, and the beaches at Gunwalloe, Poldhu Cove and Mullion Cove – to name but a few! From here, you’re also only an easy 40 minute drive from Land’s End and all that lies in between.

Absolutely loved our stay at Bass Point. Will stay again !! Select Cornwall is so easy to use too :)
We had such an amazing week, it was our second stay here and never fails to impress, location is stunning and the cottage is lovely, it’s comfortable warm and quiet. It is clean, has everything you would need and perfectly placed on the coastal path for walks in either direction.
Such a beautiful cottage in an amazing location. Owners were friendly and the communication was spot on. Information inside the cottage was very useful. Bed very comfy, a real home from home.
Thank you so much for a lovely review
The most gorgeous cottage in the most beautiful location. The cottage is clean, comfortable and well equipped. To wake up to the sea view every morning was amazing. Well worth the trek through the farm to get there. Loved that it felt remote but is almost on the South West Coastal Path and an easy walk into Lizard village. We hope to be back soon.
Lovely equipped cottage. Brilliant location for us as we love walking. The cream tea on arrival was superb. The drive to the cottage was different and amusing with the cows who I would say are used to getting out the way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Stunning location with incredible views, so peaceful place to be, the cottage was clean and very well equipped, it was well proportioned and very comfortable.
We had a wonderful time and would happily go back again.
The location of this cottage cannot be bettered. On the cliff top with scenic walks in every direction. After the strangeness of recent times the peace and quiet were very welcome. Only minor drawback, the farm track leading to the cottage can be a tricky drive in the rain, just take it slowly!
The most amazing property in an amazing location. Cottage very well equipped and beautifully furnished. Highly recommended
We was blown away! The perfect cottage, perfect location, with the most perfect views! It was just what we all needed as a family.
Bass Cottage is lovely, has all the mod cons & right on the coastal path, so fab long walks with amazing views. Not the cottages fault but may be worth the owner doing a deal with the near by property to allow access from a different way? As I said, a very small niggle in a wonderful week. Thank you - we will definitely book again.
Absolutely fantastic cottage. Perfect location for walking. Short walk into Lizard Village where you can find great places to eat. Well equipped kitchen, the bed was super comfy with fantastic views of the sea.
The whole booking process was streamlined and extremely easy. Would highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.
Absolutely beautiful cottage in an idyllic location. The cleanliness of the cottage was first class with added covid measures in place such as the QR code for the app and a hand sanitiser dispenser on entry to the property.
The owners left a welcome hamper made up of all local produce, scones, milk, clotted cream , teabags, biscuits etc. Which I have to say tasted so much better than supermarket brought items.
If you’re looking for peace and quiet away from all the hustle and bustle, enjoy nature and love home comforts this place is definitely the place to go.
I would certainly go back and would recommend it to family and friends.
If foggy at night, be prepared for the 30 second snooze alarm, the fog horn at Lizard point. Apart from that we found the Bass Point Cottage ticked all the boxes for us, isolated, virtually on the coastal path.
