The small coastal town and fishing port of Looe offers wonderful holiday cottages for you, bringing you right into the working culture and life of Cornwall. Famous for its food, the towns many delis and restaurants offer up a dazzling array of award winning food, from gourmet menus to freshly caught fish and chips and of course, the Cornish Pasty. Fancy cooking for yourself in your self-catering holiday cottage? No problem, every morning you can pop down to the quay and grab yourself some fresh fish as the catch of the day is auctioned off, as it has been in Looe for hundreds of years.

Holiday cottages in Looe are also close to the larger town of Liskeard and Looe itself consists of East and West Looe, separated by the River Looe but joined together by a bridge built in 1853. Although the fishing fleet is small compared to past times, it is still interesting to watch the fishermen unloading their catch in the harbour and this fresh fish is found on the menu of local restaurants. Looe Island lies about a mile off the coast and is open to visitors who will appreciate the magnificent views to Prawle Point in Devon and the Lizard. For a tranquil day on the rails – or even a great way to arrive to your self-catering cottage holiday in Looe, there’s the Looe Valley Railway Line, which runs between Liskeard and Looe and offers stunning estuary views on those sunny Cornish days.

Looe is a haven for wildlife, particularly birds, who find the island a natural sanctuary. Local family attractions include The Monkey Sanctuary, home to a group of woolly monkeys and rescued capuchin monkeys, and the old smuggling village of Polperro. Looe museum also houses a treasure trove of interesting smuggling artifacts and curiosities from the town’s colourful past. Holiday accommodation in Looe ranges from holiday apartments and flats to luxurious cottages and homes, and we’re sure there’ll be the perfect holiday cottage for you too.

With a variety of holiday lettings and cottages to rent, Looe is a great alternative to the more bustling mainstream Cornish holiday resorts (but watch out for new year – it’s anything but quiet then, when thousands flock to the town in fancy dress to paint the town red and watch the marvelous firework display).
